Please continue to pray for Kathy as she recently had ankle surgery, a complication of her knee replacement last year. We are so grateful for your faithful prayers and support.

January Events: December has been busy with great activities, and January is also an exciting month to invite friends and neighbors to join us at SCBC.

On January 4th, next week, we will be introducing our new theme verse with our traditional magnets and some other very exciting things for our church family.

January 11th is Installation Sunday. Our pastor will be formally installed and we will have guest speakers Dr. Bill Barrick in the morning service, and Dr. John MacArthur in the evening service.  Please note that we are changing our evening service time to 6:30 (on the 11th only).

January 25th is Praise Sunday with a special worship service in the morning led by “This Hope”, and John & Mary Geiger will our guests in the evening service.  Don’t miss any of these amazing times.

Offering Envelopes Be sure to check the back table for 2009 offering envelopes in your name.

SCBC Photo Directory On January 11th, before and after the morning worship service in the foyer, you will have an opportunity to have your family’s photo taken. There will be a sign-up sheet after the morning service on January 4th. We want to encourage all families attending SCBC to participate so that we can all get to know one another better.

To all my Togo supporters:

This message is just to wish you a Merry Christmas today with your families and to say “thank you” for your prayers for me and for your financial help to this ministry.

Christmas in Togo is just one religious holiday among many; its a day of eating and fellowship with friends for the Christians. It’s a one-day national holiday. For the non-Christians it can be the ‘day of the child’ or just a day for general feasting. “Feasting” in Togo means having plenty of FuFu (pounded manioc root), rice and sauce. New Year’s day is a much bigger holiday than Christmas among non-Christians. Gift-giving is limited among Togolese just due to the general poverty of the people. Of course here at the hospital patient care and care of emergency cases continue as they do every day of the year (on holidays and weekends no elective surgery is scheduled, so the day is somewhat calmer as long as the emergency cases are few).
