Worship Choir Retreat The dates for the annual Worship Choir Retreat are Friday and Saturday, August 27 and 28.  The retreat will once again be held at the Marriott Residence Inn at River Ridge, Oxnard, CA.  The retreat will begin with a bar-b-que on Friday night at 5:30 p.m. and will end on Saturday at noon.  Please see Steve or Brenda Dixon for more information and to reserve your room.

Whitewater Rafting The Men’s Discipleship Rafting Trip on the American River is only a few days away. For those of you interested, there are still two spots available.  The total cost for the adventure is only $140.00, but full and partial scholarships are available if the cost is an issue.  Contact David Grimes (661-254-8274) or Pastor Scott if you desire to come or have questions.  Important: There will be a short, but mandatory preparation meeting for all participants after church on Sunday, August 8^th.  During this meeting, we will give you specifics regarding: what to bring and when and where to meet for departure.  This will also be the time when you should give the balance of your payment for the trip.  Please make plans to attend this meeting immediately after church on Sunday, August 8^th.

Church Beach Day Saturday, July 10^th from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm there will be an all-church beach day at Silver Strand Beach in Oxnard.  Bring your own food and have a great time together! Small barbeques are allowed on the beach.

This team will be touring throughout Russia and will be bringing the message of the Gospel through the medium of music and testimony.  Please come and enjoy this classical music and learn more about the vision of the team, and what you can do to support their ministry.

The Master’s Chorale, under the direction of Pastor Paul Plew, will be with us for our morning service on Mother’s Day, May 9, 2010.  This 50-member auditioned choir, represents 30 states and nearly every major area of study.  The chorale performs throughout the United State and Europe, and we are blessed to have them with us.

Whitewater Rafting The men’s ministry at SCBC has organized a two-day rafting trip down the American River.  The dates are July 9-11, leaving Friday afternoon and returning Sunday night.  The cost is $140 per person and there are 18 spots available which will go quickly.  If you are interested please get your $70 deposit to Dave Grimes or Pastor Scott as soon as possible.  Initially, we are opening this to college age and above until we see what availability we have, but if you have a desire to have your son included please let us know and we’ll make note of this.

Men’s Theology For Breakfast & Dessert Pastor Scott will be beginning a study of the doctrine of Christ, or Christology and using Dr. Greg Harris’ excellent book, The Darkness and The Glory.  We will have two sessions, Friday night at 10:00 pm, meeting at Pete Proctor’s Baskin Robbins Ice Cream shop, and Saturday morning at 6:30 am at Saugus Cafe.  The first Friday evening meeting is April 30^th and the first Saturday meeting will be on May 8^th.   Please let Pastor know of your interest so he can get a head count for books.

Starting Next Weekend Pastor Scott & Dan Vanherden (our Master’s College Biblical Counseling intern) will be teaching a four-week Bible study on discipleship.  Discipleship is something that Scripture commands each believer to be doing and often it is a lack of understanding or fear of the unknown that keeps us from obeying God’s Word.  Discipleship is not at all hard and we want to give you the tools to be obedient to God’s Word because it is commanded and we know you want to be faithful.

Bridal Shower There will be a bridal shower brunch for one of our own, Deena Mayhugh, on Saturday, May 8 at 10:30 am in the church library.  If you are interested in bringing something, speak with either Sarah Dixon or Kendra Moss.  We hope to see many of you there!  Deena is registered at Target, Bed, Bath & Beyond and Crate & Barrel.

Save The Date Mark your summer calendars for Vacation Bible School!  This year, there will be week-long, evening Vacation Bible School on July 26-30 followed by a closing program in place of the evening service on August 1. More details will be following the near future.

Missions Fundraiser Team Philippines from The Master’s College is recycling old cell phones to help them raise funds for an overseas missions trip this summer (May 12-June 30).  If anyone has an old cell phone or two and is willing to help out with the fundraiser, please bring the old phones (with the personal information removed) to church.  There will be a collection box in the foyer.  You may also drop them off in the church office.   Hannah Dupea is part of this team!

Thank You to all who provided Easter lilies for last Sunday’s service.  It was very encouraging to Pam Plew!

Church Camp-Out!! Sign-up’s will begin next Sunday for our Annual Church Camp-Out at Flying Flags Campground in Solvang!  Both tenting and RV’s are welcome for June 18-20^th (several families stay for a week!)– the best sites go fast – so plan to request your spot in the foyer starting at 8:45 am next week.  Our camp-out includes two campfire worship times and opportunities for all kinds of fun and fellowship including:  Solvang shopping, swimming, hiking, golf, tennis, frisbee and other lawn games, exploring, biking, table games, and just “sitting around and chewin’ the fat”.  Early birds join us for Split Pea Anderson’s dinner on Wednesday and AJ Spur’s Western BBQ dinner on Thursday.

This Saturday, April 17, is the annual spring luncheon. If you have signed up to help but have not registered with Julie please do so today so we can get a final head count to order food. We know this is going to be a wonderful luncheon and we look forward to seeing you there

Today is the final day to sign up for the 4-part series Hospitality in Our Heart class that will begin Thursday, April 15, at 7:00 p.m. in the home ec room. Please sign up at the Women’s Ministry table in the back of the room. Hospitality Class Sign-Up: Please sign up today at the Women’s Ministry table for the Hospitality Class that will begin April 15 @ 7:00 in the Home EC. room.  The cost of the class is $7.00; and includes all the materials for the 4 week course. The dates of the class are: April 15, May 6, May 20, June 3.
