The latest newsletter states: “Our school Open House Night in December was a blessing.  There were lots of visitors and the students did a marvelous job.  The message of the Gospel was clearly presented throughout the program. We are grateful for your continuing prayers with us for our health.  Kathy had surgery on her ankle last week.  My eyesight seems to be stable right now.  Hopefully the macular degeneration has been halted. Thank you for your valuable support.”

Men’s Breakfast Calling All Men:  Please join us this Saturday, January 30^th for our Men’s Prayer Breakfast in Room 211 (Home Ec. Room) at 7:30am.  We will fellowship and have a pancake and sausage breakfast meal as part of our SCCS Senior Class fundraiser.  Suggested donation $5 (more if you can).  Our special speaker will be Mr. David “Gunner” Gundersen, Dean of Men at The Master’s College who will challenge us from the Word of God.  Men, feel free to bring your son(s) and invite a friend.  A great time is in store – Be a part of it!

January 31^st at 5:00 pm Mark this date for a night of dinner and fellowship @ SCBC when we gather for a Salad Supper Agape Feast.  Bring your favorite salad to share with 10-12 folks. This dinner will be in lieu of evening service.

Upcoming youth group winter camp: All registrations for camp must be in so we can send the total  to Placerita Baptist and on to the camp.  Please return them today, and make certain Garrick Moss knows of your plans to attend if you don’t have it completed this morning.  Multi-student discount and scholarships are available.

“January is one of the hottest months of the year in Australia.  Thankfully it is summer break for all the schools.  Our Christian school will go back at the beginning of February.  We are enjoying the blessing of having some of the younger men take the reins, organizing the Kids Club, Youth, tract drops, etc.  Kathy and I are slowing down in our old age and our energy is waning.  It is shaping up to be a busy year!   We do so appreciate your faithfulness to missions.  Thank you for your valuable support.”

“We were in Idaho in June, 2009, to prepare for this move and the Lord directed our steps to a house in Nampa that holds broad potential for a varied ministry in this season of our lives.  We made it through the challenge of dengue fever and loading the 20’ shipping container in Panama in July with a renewed awareness of God’s grace, goodness, strength and provision in our weakness.  In the past three months, we have continued unpacking (I still have 80+ boxes of books waiting for shelf space) even while pursing the new ministry of church planting here, along with complementary roles with Spanish speakers such as volunteer chaplain ministry or translation at a nearby hospital (Kirk) or as a volunteer budget counselor (Juanita) with a local ministry that helps people develop discipline with their finances in order to rescue endangered houses and homes, families and relationships.  This is discovery stage as we get to know the realities of the existing Hispanic population and ministries and see how we can best serve here, continuing as full-time missionaries with CAM International.”

Couples’ Sunday School Class Beginning next Sunday, January 10^th, Pastor Scott will be teaching a Sunday School class on marriage.  Are you interested in help with your family finances and your communication as a couple, challenges with raising children, and with other aspects of your marriage?  If so, please come to room 221 at 9:00 a.m. next Sunday for this six-week course.

Please join us for a Titus 2 workshop where we will learn about God’s plan for your home and relationships in your life. Plan to join us on January 23, 2010, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Santa Clarita Baptist Church. Our guest speaker will be our very own delightful Joanne Frank! Through the study of Titus 2: 3-5 we learn the Titus 2 principles that will help our marriages and our relationships thrive. God’s Word has wisdom for each of us that is practical and available. Registration fee is $25.00; includes your workbook, snack, as well as lunch. Reserve your place in this workshop by January 15, 2009. Registration begins next Sunday; look for the Women’s Ministries table in the back! Youth Events: Gotcha! This evening after the worship service, plan to stay until 9:30 pm. Bring a snack or soda to share. September 20^th: Jr. High and High School combined Coffeehouse after the evening service. We will load the bus and go to In-N-Out on Sand Canyon. Pick up your child at the church at 9 pm.

AWANA: Awana will begin on September 16^th. Pre-registration will be Sunday, September 13^th, after the morning worship service at the back of the church. There will be a leader and staff orientation on Wednesday, September 9^th, 7:00 pm in the library.

Isn’t Christian Fellowship a Blessing? We want to encourage that at SCBC and so we are moving our morning service time to 10:30.  Sunday school will still begin at 9:00 sharp, and our new time will also allow us to have a full hour of Sunday school.  This way we’ll all have some time to chat and catch up on the week’s events after a wonderful time of teaching in Sunday school.  Our morning service time change will begin the first Sunday in October, on the 4th, so you have a whole month to adjust.  We’re excited about this great opportunity and hope you are also.

Ladies’ daytime Bible Study~ The afternoon Ladies’ Bible Study will meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month beginning September 17 @ 1:00 p.m., in the home of Julie Houchin (17748 Silverstream Drive, Canyon Country, 91387).  Mrs. Edna Peters will be taking us through Being a Woman of Prayer by Cynthia Heald.  Please call Edna at 661-287-5867 for sign up and for any questions about this study.  We will be ordering books this week.

Ladies’ Evening Bible Study begins September 17 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  The study will be on Trusting God by Jerry Bridges. Jan Dennis will lead this study which will take place the first and third Thursday of each month. If you have a copy of this book you may use that, but may desire ordering the workbook. Men’ Retreat – “Our God Rules and Reigns” by J.O. Purcell. This is a two-day getaway at Victory Ranch, October 16-17 for only $60. Mark your calendars! Santa Clarita Christian School has been ministering to families in the Santa Clarita Valley for 28 years. We had many visitors on our campus last year at our graduations, sporting events, Grandparent’s day, Open House and our carnival.  We praise the Lord for the impact SCCS has in the community. Pray for our new Administrator, Bob White, our students, faculty and staff as we approach the upcoming school year.  We are thankful to be a part of this amazing ministry. School starts August 26^th!

God has answered our prayers concerning achurch and English center. God has provided two buildings for us. One will be a living area for Pastor Ang and his wife on the top floor with student center and dorm rooms below. The other will be our living area on the top two floors with guest rooms below. This summer we are planning a wonderful time of family Sunday School.  We’ll meet in the CLC and have an exciting presentation of “Science & Scripture: Is There Any Problem Here?”  Dr. Joe Francis of The Master’s College will lead us in a series of excellent lessons focusing on this extremely relevant and hot topic in our world today.  More details will be forthcoming in the weeks ahead, but make sure that you plan on being with us.  There has even been a rumor of a kick-off breakfast so don’t you dare miss it.

Free Concert!! Grace Baptist Praise Symphony Orchestra presents Celebrate Music Made In America. This concert will be held at Grace Baptist Church, Santa Clarita, on Saturday, May 30^th at 10:00 am. There will be music from Copland, Gershwin, Joplin, John Williams, Glenn Miller and more. You don’t want to miss this event! Building Project: City Hall published the availability of the land on April 7.  Now everyone has 25 days to present an architectural plan, proof of financial ability, etc.   At the meeting a week ago not only was another evangelical church represented but there was representation from the Buddhists, Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons.  So there is competition and if we only looked at the fact that for these other groups money is not a problem we would be discouraged.  But we know that if God wants us to have this property it will be ours.  It’s in His hands.
